This 12-year-old malt is regarded as a ‘middleweight’ Caol Ila, yet it displays an impressive combination of crisp phenols, oily textures and a clear, characterful strength. This bottling presents itself as a well-balanced, peaty beauty that delights both long-standing Islay enthusiasts and newcomers alike. The malt is clear and white-gold in colour, thanks to its classic maturation in oak casks and the use of colouring to harmonise the hue. Typical of Caol Ila, the whisky combines the crisp, fresh, salty aromas of the sea with powerful peaty notes, whilst an initial sweetness creates an elegant balance. At 43% ABV, it is smooth, aromatic and yet vigorous – an impressive expression of the maritime Islay style.
