Botucal is the alternative brand to Ron Diplomatico, developed for markets where there are trade mark conflicts. There is precisely such a conflict in Germany with the word mark ‘Diplomatico’. Consequently, we are now only permitted to offer Botucal to our German customers. However, according to the manufacturer, the rum is said to be the same as that of the parent brand, Diplomatico. One of the great rum discoveries of 2008 comes from the Venezuelan Distilerias Unidas. Full-bodied, complex and quite different in character from the country’s better-known rum brands such as Cacique or Ocumare – which tend to appeal through their lightness – Botucal Reserva Exclusiva is aimed at the discerning connoisseur.

Distilled from molasses in copper pot stills, Botucal Reserva Exclusiva is matured for approximately 12 years in selected ex-bourbon casks. With these bottlings, the producer draws inspiration from the old Venezuelan style, characterised by rich and warm notes, which in recent years has given way to a lighter and more approachable rum style typical of the country. Thanks to its long maturation, it achieves an incredibly intense body of exceptional balance, perfected through traditional expertise and craftsmanship. A truly regal rum!
